Are You Hurt or Just Sore?

Working out should make you sore. I've never subscribed to those in the industry that say you shouldn't be sore after a workout. If you're training a muscle hard enough to elicit an adaptation ( ie. getting bigger and stronger muscles), then you should be sore. You're creating microscopic tears in the muscle tissue which results in inflammation and soreness.   If it's your first workout in a while you may find yourself crazy sore for days afterwards.
